Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 29, 2026
ZoningPoint is a directory of zoning maps and zoning codes for cities and counties in the United States. You can search it and open maps without an account. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and who else sees it.
What we collect
Your account
If you create an account, we store your email address, a hashed version of your password, and anything you add to your profile, such as your name, your profession and your state. If you are on a team, the team owner can see that you are a member. We use this to run your account and to send account emails, like email confirmation and password resets.
Searches and map clicks
We log the searches typed into the site so we can see which places people look for and which maps are missing. When you open a zoning map or zoning code link, we record which map was opened, the time, your IP address and, if you are signed in, your account. We use this to count usage, spot broken links and stop abuse. When a search does not match a place in our database, the search text is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to look up the city or county.
Messages and reports you send
If you use the contact form, the feedback form or a "report broken link" button, we keep what you sent, plus your name and email address if you gave them, so we can reply and fix the problem.
Usage data and analytics
We use Clicky and Microsoft Clarity to see which pages people use and where the site is confusing or broken. Clarity records how pages are clicked and scrolled. These tools receive your IP address, device and browser information, and the pages you visit. Our host and our content delivery network also keep standard server logs (IP address, requested page, time) for security and troubleshooting.
You can turn Clarity off for your browser on the cookie policy page.
Advertising
ZoningPoint shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, measure them and, where the law allows, personalize them based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's Ad Settings and read how Google uses this data in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Services that process data for us
- DigitalOcean hosts the site and its database. DigitalOcean's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare sits in front of the site as a content delivery network and firewall, and may set cookies it needs for security. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google provides AdSense and reCAPTCHA, which checks that form submissions come from people rather than bots. Google's privacy policy.
- Microsoft Clarity records page interactions. Microsoft's privacy statement.
- Clicky provides page statistics.
- Resend sends account emails and other emails from the site. Resend's privacy policy.
- OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service looks up places for searches we cannot match. OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
- Telegram delivers internal alerts to the site owner about broken link reports, which can include the details you submitted.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the services above, except where the law requires it.
How long we keep things
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Contact messages, feedback and broken link reports are kept until they have been dealt with and for a reasonable time afterwards. Search and click logs are kept for as long as they are useful for improving the site. Analytics data is kept according to each provider's default retention, and server logs are rotated automatically.
Your choices and requests
If you have an account, you can download a copy of your data and delete your account from your account settings. To see, correct or delete anything else we hold about you, send a note through the contact page. We will act on it within 30 days. To stop analytics cookies, use the switch on the cookie policy page or block cookies in your browser.
Depending on where you live, including California and the European Union, you may have extra rights, such as the right to know what we hold, to have it deleted, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To use any of these rights, contact us and we will respond within the time the law requires.
Children
ZoningPoint is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new effective date.
